The Lost Hero (4/5)

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan is a unique fantasy/adventure novel as it is narrated in first person. What makes it unique is that even though it is first person, you see the points of view of the three main characters Jason Grace, Piper McLean, and Leo Valdez. They take turns narrating every 2-3 chapters. The story starts with Jason, a Roman demigod who has forgotten his past. He woke up on a school bus and discovered that he had 2 friends, Piper and Leo. They are attacked by evil air spirits while on a field trip at the Grand Canyon. The monster is slayed and sent to Tartarus, the Hell of Greek Mythology. The trio is then taken to Camp Half-Blood by a girl named Annabeth, accompanied by another demigod named Butch. Piper and Leo are claimed by Greek gods, but Jason is claimed by the Roman form of Zeus. They then discover certain powers that were inherited from their parents. They prove they have potential after Leo tames a dragon and Jason finds his sister. A quest to save the Greek Goddess Hera is given to them shortly after. They face many evil deities and creatures on their new adventure, like Boreas, the God of the North Winds. After defeating many monsters and escaping evil, they end up at Mount Diablo, where Piper’s dad is being held captive by one final obstacle, a giant named Enceladus. Help is provided as they go on and save Hera. Toward the very end, it is shown that Hera had switched Jason with a Greek demigod named Percy Jackson.

I enjoyed this book because I found it interesting as I could learn about Mythology while reading a story. I also remembered that I really enjoyed the prequel, the Percy Jackson series that I read a while ago. It was also captivating because many of the chapters ended with cliffhangers.

Overall, I would recommend this book to future readers as it is a very interesting book with lots of details about Greek Mythology. I would especially recommend it to readers who have already read about Percy Jackson. It is a series as well, so there are 4 more books to read if you liked the book.
