The Maze Runner by James Dashner (4/5)

The maze runner is a Sci-Fi novel by James Dashner that tells the tale of a teen boy named Thomas. The story is set in the future and more is revealed about the world the more that you read. Thomas wakes up in a box elevator with no memory of past experiences. The only thing he remembers is his name. Him and many other boys are forced to live in “the glade” (A large plain of grass) that is surrounded by a giant stone maze that changes every night and they spend the majority of the novel finding out its secrets and trying to find a solution to this enlarged version of a normally simple puzzle. The story develops its characters really well throughout the novel and has many memorable ones. Thomas and the other boys. The thing that I really like about this book is that the main character does things that I feel like I would do which makes certain events and dialogue very satisfying to read. The ending sets up a sequel and makes the story feel incomplete, which is one of the only main criticisms I have about this book. The design of the world that the book is placed in is unlike anything I have ever read and makes me want to learn more about how it was made and the origins behind it. If you are looking for an action packed story that sends you through a roller coaster of emotions, this book is for you. This book taught me about brotherhood, teamwork, sacrifice, bravery and so much more. While this story was exceptional in almost all aspects of what makes a great book, one thing that isn’t bothersome for me but might be for other people, is the lack of female characters. In my personal opinion, this book is a solid 4 out of 5 because of its uniqueness and the fact that I couldn’t put it down. The only thing that could get it to a five for me is if the ending was an end and didn’t lead into a sequel.
