If you have been looking for your next amazing fantasy read, then The Night Circus may be the book for you. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern is a fantastic book that follows two main magicians who have been trained in magic since they were young. They have been chosen by their instructors to compete against each other in a type of mystery game held in an almost unreal circus that the characters are trying to figure out with the reader. Their instructors bind Celia and Marco to each other and to the game permanently. Unfortunately for Celia and Marco, they do not know that the game only ends when one of them is eliminated. Almost on accident, Celia and Marco fall in love, deeply complicating the game even more and creating a ripple effect of chaos on the whole circus.
I absolutely loved this book. It was a very enjoyable read, and I really liked the author’s writing style. The timeline in this book can be confusing as the location and date of almost every chapter vary, and you need to piece together the chronological order yourself. I liked this decision as it helps to allude to the fact that you, as a reader, are trying to figure out the mystery of the night circus and the game it conceals along with the characters. I also liked the way Erin Morgenstern describes all the characters, even the ones that do not appear often. Almost everyone is deeply important to the plot. All the characters have such rich personalities, and I thought it was really interesting how the author showed how everyone’s actions can have a large effect on the circus and also the circus performers. While reading this book, it is easy to forget yourself in the pages and become a part of this world. The writing makes you feel as if you are walking inside the circus, wandering down its seemingly infinite paths and watching the magical performers achieve impossible feats. If you do decide to read this book, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
