The Pretties by Scott Westerfeld (4/5)

What does being beautiful and perfect on the outside mean if you are nothing on the inside? Scott Westerfeld's book, The Pretties, is a sequel to his book the uglies and was published in 2005. The protagonist of this story, Tally is finally what her society deems ¨pretty¨, she now fits in and feels a part of the group. Beneath this utopia, she feels something off and that life may not be all that it seems. She feels the difference between having a clearer mind ugly vs a sheep-like mindset being pretty. Some of her memories come rushing back and she unlocks the answers to the truth of her world. Knowing this information she will become a target in her community, no one can know the truth. I personally enjoyed this book a lot, it kept my interest the whole way through despite my short attention span. It goes really into depth about identity and the way someone is portrayed on the outside vs. the inside. Even though the story is fictional, it feels very eye-opening, and helpful lessons are taught. I would recommend this book to people that are interested in dystopian fiction and action stories. If you liked the hunger games you will probably enjoy this book as well. I would rate this book a 4 out of 5, it wasn't the best book I have ever read but, I still enjoyed it.
