The River by Gary Paulsen (4/5)

The book The River by Gary Paulsen is about a young 14-year-old boy named Brian when suddenly 3 people, mainly Derek, come into his house. Derek is a reporter and notetaker interested in making Brian go back to the deep forest and show how he survived so long and made it out alive in one piece. Brain impressed Derek with his amazing and unique survival talents which he had learned from past experiences. Brian spent a couple of nights with Derek in the forest teaching him the ways but soon this would take a turn for the worst. Brian had to make a quick decision so sailed down the river Going down the river connected to the lake was a torturous and long journey but they soon made it to the destination they hoped for. I felt this book was very eventful and quick because it seemed as if Brian went from being in his house to have the pressure of someone's life in his hands. The book really showed that if you put in your all you will profit and power through the struggles that may come in your life so it will all pay off in the end. That really shows how Brian powered through the obstacles that he faced such as the river or Derek's life in Brians's hands. The book was very well though and I thought that Gary Paulen had done a great job illustrating the book. I was very attached to what was going on in the reading every time I was reading the book because it was so suspenseful and grabbing. This book was definitely a top book by my standards due to the amazing connection it had between the books Brians's Winter and the Hatchet. If you like books that make you on the edge of your seat most of the time and make you feel as if you are in the story I feel as if this book is for you. Furthermore, if you like books with unexpected twists and turns then I think this book is the book for you.
