“In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.” -Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
Douglas Adams was a popular Sci-Fi author, famous for his book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Although he sadly passed away in 2001, his friends recovered much of his work, and compiled it into The Salmon of Doubt in 2002.
The Salmon of Doubt collects articles, short stories, and fragments of unfinished books written by Douglas Adams. These include stories about the Alien Zaphod Beeblebrox, Detective Dirk Gently, and Genghis Khan, as well as some of his personal accounts and stories.
It is, overall, a pretty good read. Douglas, even when writing about his own normal life, has a very compelling style of writing. The works collected are all interesting, and his short stories have fun, interesting plots.
In summary, if you are a fan of Douglas Adams, I would recommend this book. If you don’t know him, I would recommend reading The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy first.
