The Selection by Kiera Cass (5/5)

In the novel, there are about 25 girls selected to be in a competition in order to win the princes love and the crown. It is sort of a dyst

opian society where there are numbered classes, 1-8, ones were solely royalty, and twos a

nd threes were a spoiled higher class, and anything below was poor and barely surviving off of what they had. These girls that were selected came from any class from five and up, and they were all fighting to be the new princess. The main character, America, was the only girl in the competition that didn’t want the prince or the title, she was selected on accident, but decided to stay because the royal family provided compensation that was sent to her poor family. Her and the prince, Maxon, bonded and she became his “wigman” but little did they know they would find something a bit more than friendship.

This was a truly fantastic novel. It is really well written, and I honestly have nothing bad to say about it. I was fascinated by the symbolism of Americas character, and how she represented America, and how the country was poor and not worth much, but then we fought for freedom and built a beautiful place out of nothing, just like how America came from a poor family and basically changed the course of her society by introducing revolutionary ideas about changing the numbered class system.

Overall, this was an amazing novel and I definitely would recommend. It is definitely now one of my favorite books, I absolutely loved it. It is very well written with a great plot and story, and it highlights feminism and how you can change anything with just a voice.
