This book is a story about kings, gods, and one who was both. It is a love story based in the
Trojan War. The two main characters are Patroclus and Achilles though it is written from the perspective of Patroclus. One quote captures why this book is very special that being “name one hero who was happy….I can’t.” This book shows the good things and bad things of being a hero. It talks about how glory and pride don’t bring happiness but instead, the people you meet and the love you find. It talks about how heroes most of the time aren’t happy themselves but instead work to bring happiness to others. It is about love, sacrifice, and the struggle these people have to stay together. One being half god half price and the other being a banished child. It is a book based on the Lilliad which was a poem written by Homer in the 8th century B.C. I loved this book. I am usually not a fan of romance books but this book was good enough to keep even me interested. I like the equal focus between the characters and how they approached the Trojan War from a different perspective than it is usually written about. I liked how differently Achilles was portrayed. I read this book over the weekend and have re-read it twice already. It is a sad plot but it has so many happy moments between the characters. It has a mixture of action and romance. Anyone who enjoys Greek mythology will love this book.My advice for future readers is to read this on a day you have time to read a lot of it. The beginning is slow but it picks up fast. Readers do not need to know much about Greek mythology, if anything to enjoy this book. Don't be scared away by the romance there is also a large part that is action. This book is very sad but that is some of the beauty of it doesn’t sugar coat the emotions of the story it tells it how it is and that means sad.
