The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James (5/5)

The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James focuses on two women, Carly Kirk and Viv Delaney. These two women live in different time periods, Viv lives in the early 80s while Carly lives in more recent 2017. These two women are related to each other by blood, as Viv is the aunt of Carly, however, in Carly’s time, Viv mysteriously disappeared without a trace from the small town of Fell, New York many years ago before her birth. In other chapters, however, readers cut back to the ’80s with Viv alive and well, not knowing of her eventual disappearance. While Carly attempts to find her aunt in her time, Viv tries to catch a murderer who has been hiding in the depths of the town of Fell. Their investigations make connections with each other, as both of the young girls work at the same haunted Sun Down Motel, both of them dig deeper into a man who Viv suspects to be the culprit behind many of Fell’s unsolved murders. My experience with this book was engaging. In every chapter, more pieces start to shift into place, and questions such as the fate of Viv are left to ponder until the conclusion of the book. The world painted in the book shows the struggles Viv and Carly go through just for being women, and how dangerous their situations get as the story progresses. Overall, my opinions on this work are mostly positive. My advice to others is to give it a chance for a read, as it will leave them with satisfaction.
