The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin (4/5)

The Thing About Jellyfish is a fictional story about a girl named Zu who feels responsible for the death of her best friend Franny. She feels so much grief that she stops talking to her parents, friends, and her teachers. Then Zu researches Jellyfish to try to blame them for causing Franny to drown. Throughout the book, one sees flashbacks from Zu’s past of her and Franny as children. In the end, after Zu refrains from doing something drastic just to prove her point, she learns that she shouldn’t grieve over something that she couldn’t control. Overall she learns to be happy with her life once again. I thought it was a very good book, and I really enjoyed reading it. When I started reading the book I immediately wanted to not put it down. I think this book helped me see different things through the perspective of a person who is completely different than me. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Marine biology because throughout the reader is able to learn many scientific facts about ocean life.
