If you are looking for a short sad read, this is your book. This fiction novel is about a young girl named Suzy Swanson. The book focuses on accepting the reality of when bad things happen to you and facing the challenges that come with it. Our story starts in a small town called South Grove, Massachusetts. (Based on the summary of the, The Thing About the Jellyfish) The story follows a seventh grader after her best friend died in a drowning accident. Suzy strongly believes that the cause of Franny's death was a jellyfish sting. Suzy leaves on a mission to prove her claim by trying to travel halfway across the world to find the answer. The book was a fantastic read. I could not put the book down. The book has so many interesting characters and the imagery was fantastic. I believe that even though she was going through the loss of losing her best friend I disagree with traveling the world to find her answers. Not only is it dangerous but also unwise. Suzy could have gotten lost or even kidnapped in a foreign country without help or anyone to know where she was. On the other hand, this book shows that someone younger than 12, books a taxi, hotel, and plane ticket. Showing that no matter the age you can always figure out challenges. The book leaves out the consequences of all of this and the logic of no one noticing anything wrong or worrying about this child. In reality, the parents would have paid more attention to her well-being. For example, another author I agree with is Julie Jarson. She showed a repeated opinion that actions always have consequences no matter the age. The book showed me new facts about jellyfish and Global warming that I was unaware of. For example, did you know that Jellyfish have survived six mass extinctions and the oldest recorded jellyfish is 505 million years old? I could not put down this book for the first time I had found one I enjoyed. In the end, the mom promised to pay better attention to Suzy. The mother told Susie that she believed that it was a riptide that pulled Franny out to sea. The book was a fantastic read. In addition, you could learn about Global warming and jellyfish (Scyphozoa). I highly recommend this book for people who are looking for a short read.
