The Worst Night Ever

By: Wesley B

The Worst Night Ever is a very good book, as it has a wonderful storyline paired with funny jokes and gags throughout. It is a sequel to another hilarious book fittingly named The Worst Class Trip Ever. It starts with referencing the prior book where our main protagonist, Wyatt, saved the president from planned attacks. It details how all that happened in middle school and now that he is in high school, nobody cares for his once famous status. He comes across two rich, popular twins who attend his new high school. These antics go on and on with Wyatt being on the receiving end until his less intellectually gifted friend Matt brought his ferret to school because he would have gotten bored at home alone. Anyways, the Bevin brothers ended up taking the ferret after a cafeteria altercation. After many failed attempts to reclaim the evasive ferret, they resorted to assorted after-school antics to continue their attempt to get their furry friend back. They recruit the help of another member of their famous school trip, Victor. He is in possession of a drone, which Wyatt and Matt used to spy on the Bevin residence, to which they bit off a little more than they can chew. They saw many interesting things and some that worried them. In a final, last-ditch effort to get the ferret back, they sneak into the Bevin’s gated residence and attempt to get into their big party, in the process, they almost get eaten by alligators, nearly fall off a 30 ft high wall, and even chased down by multiple 200+ lbs linebackers. It is an amazing book, written by one of my favorite modern-day authors. It brings laughs, paired with a page-turning plot. The only flaw with it is a theme we see all too much in modern-day literature, which is the “and this is how it ended” ending. It is annoying, as it could have been a wonderful last chapter, but it is slightly anti-climactic. Other than that, I would 100% recommend The Worst Night Ever by Dave Barry.
