The Year We Were Famous; Carole Estby Dagg (2/5)

Based on a true story, The Year We Were Famous by Carole Estby Dagg illustrates the journey of Clara Estby and her mother as they embark on a dangerous journey. In desperation to save their farm, they set out to walk across the U.S. in hopes of making it to New York City in seven months' time to collect their reward. However, the journey is not as simple as they thought, as the women face a number of challenges, both natural and formed with each other, to uncover new strengths and weaknesses. This book, being 256 pages, was a quick and easy read. In my opinion, it lacked critical thinking and was too easy for me. The word choice was bland and the storyline itself was predictable. It wasn’t my cup of tea, but it was an interesting read filled with simple plot twists often. If you read at a little bit of a lower level or are looking for an easy winter-break read, this book might be for you! But, if you are like me and enjoy an intellectual challenge, look elsewhere for a book.
