They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera (5/5)

Updated: Oct 12, 2022

Imagine a world where you know exactly when you are going to die. The book I chose to read for book love is They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera. This book has a prequel that just came out his year. They Both Die at the End is about a world where you get a 24-hour notice before you are about to die. This company is called Death-Cast and their goal is to make sure you get to live your life before you die. Everyone who gets the phone call is called a Decker. It starts off with the Decker Mateo, an antisocial 18-year-old who just started college online. Mateo gets the phone call and decides he is tired of staying cooped up in his apartment. He wants to go outside, meet new people, and have no regrets when he dies. An app called the Last-Friends App helps Deckers make a new friend who will help them live one last time. This is how Mateo meets Rufus. Rufus is 17 years old. He lost his family to a car crash and ever since has been trying his best to live his life without them. He got into trouble with the law so he couldn't spend his end day with his best friends who were scared he would get caught if he stayed with them. To make his end day a little less lonely he searches for a friend on the Last-Friends App. The two meet up and slowly become good friends under the sad circumstances of their untimely demise. The author's way of writing is so different from any other book I have read. Each chapter was a different character's point of view, but he made sure whatever was happening was always relevant to the story. It was a really captivating story that had many surprises and somehow connected all the other characters to each other. I personally really like how the author's use of vivid imagery describes the scene around the characters in such detail. I personally thought this book was very interesting and I have no complaints about it. I think people who like tear-jerkers and adventure might really enjoy this book. If you feel this is something you would like I definitely recommend reading it. My rating is 5 stars out of 5 stars because it was really different from other books that I have read and has a really impactful message about living your life while you can.
