They Both Die at the End (3.5/5)

I read They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera, the themes this book falls into are ethics, mortality, and human connection and to me, this develops a well-learned lesson in the reader. The book starts off by presenting 2 individuals, Rufus and Mateo. They both get a call called a “Death-cast” essentially warning the person contacted that they will die within the next 24 hours. Both protagonists make plans to make the best of their last day so they go on the app called, “Last Friend” and they meet each other, before meeting each other both talk to different people and feel no spark. When they meet each other they decide to make plans looking for one last real relationship. Both weren’t expecting to fall as deeply as they did especially in the dynamic they did. I think this book goes along as if you’re growing with the character so you get attached to them and the dynamics they hold. My advice to future readers is to consider everything as temporary just depends on how you take the path and your attitude toward it. Going into reading this book I see myself as a non-sentimental person and to be honest as I grow with these characters that began to change due to assessment of their connection as well as a lesson towards mortality and the meaning of it and the relationships you hold.
