They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera (5/5)

If you knew you would die sometime in the next 24 hours how would you spend your time? They both Die at the End is a book by Adam Silvera. It is not part of a series and you do not have to read any books before reading this. It is set in a world where the date you are going to die is known and people are told when they are going to die 24 hours before it happens. They can pass away any time in that period. Mateo is a young adult who suffers from anxiety, when he gets the call that he will die sometime that day he decides to jump out of his comfort zone and use the last friend app to find a pal to spend his final day with. Rufus is an orphan who gets the call on the same night as Mateo. He also decided to find a last friend to give him company. Mateo and Rufus meet up and at first are skeptical and cold to each other. As time goes along and they do more activities together they become closer friends. Many obstacles come in their way threatening to kill them which builds a gracious amount of suspense. This book was amazing. The character development was beautiful to see unravel. By the end of the book both Mateo and Rufus seemed like completely different people. They had both helped each other to step outside of their normal routine and enjoy their last day to the full extent. The plot twists throughout the book were intriguing to read and kept the readers eagerly wanting to discover what happens. I must admit that the ending of the book was not as captivating or detailed as the rest of the book. It felt short and blunt which did not give the closure I expected ;however; it may have been the author's intent to not focus on their deaths and instead focus on the life that they lived in their 24 hours together. Although the ending was not as fulfilling as I hoped the rest of the book was full of emotion and perfectly put together, I would highly recommend this book for people who love heartbreak, angst, adventures, character development and romance.
