They Both Die at the End is about two boys and how they live their last day. Death-Cast, a government program that calls you to tell you you are going to die in the next twenty-four hours, has called both boys. Rufus who is 17, and Mateo who is 18, have to decide what they are going to do on the day they die. An interesting note is this book switches between multiple perspectives, but the two main characters Mateo and Rufus get the most focus of the book.
This story talks about how you should make every day count because you never know if there will be a next one. It covers what it means to live and all the hardships and joys that come with life. It emphasizes enjoying every good or bad day because it may be your last. The book shows how relationships and the people you meet in your life can affect you for the rest of it. No matter how much you think you know about life other people can teach you more and push you to live your life to the fullest and live every day with grace.
I loved this book. I thought this was a pretty fast-paced read, though the beginning started slow. I thought that this book's character development, plot, and message were great and I would recommend this to any dystopian lover. This book is based in a dystopian world with a twist of romance. The book consistently gets the reader to question what it means to live life to its fullest.
