Thunderhead By Neal Shusterman (4/5)

The book is about a future world where humans and the thunderhead have figured out immortality and answers to all their problems. This book is a sequel to the book Scythe. In this book, people called scythes have to kill people to keep the population from rising too high. The thunderhead is the cloud that evolved into an artificial intelligence that sees in almost every house in the world and provides humans with everything they need. It can prevent natural disasters, prevent a lot of crime from happening, and it can be anywhere in the world it needs to be. The book focuses mostly on Citra, and Rowan, Citra is a scythe and Rowan is a failed scythe. Citra has to deal with the older scythes and the threat against her life while Rowan has some horrific people from his past come back. Citra chose to let the victims of her killings decide how they want to die which is different from how it is normally done. This causes many scythes to argue that it is unethical to give someone a choice and not just sporadically kill them. Citra is also having her life threatened by people who believe that scythes should not choose who and when people die. Rowan gets taken by his old mentor who he thought was dead.

I liked reading this book. It contains lots of plot twists, new characters that were not from the first book, it dives deeper into the history of the world, it gives more perspective into the lives of other people, not just the main characters, and provides new information that we did not know from the first book. The book is 504 pages long so it will take a while to read. The book switches between characters so your perspective on what's happening in the world changes. The different character’s stories are usually interconnected so some characters know things about the plot that the other characters don’t and that is interesting to me. I have not read a book before that has multiple character perspectives in the same story. The plot of this book gets crazier as this book goes on and the characters go through many events that overlap with the other characters.
