Twilight by Stephenie Meyers (5/5)

Twilight is a fantasy romance novel following the life of Bella Swan, a new girl in a new town. Throughout the novel, Bella grows to love her new town of Forks, the city she has always found boring and dull compared to her sunny hometown of Phoenix. Since Forks is such a small town, Bella feels like an outcast in her new environment. She feels that everyone in the town watches her every move as if she is a new and shiny object. After being saved from certain death multiple times by a boy named Edward Cullen, Bella feels unexpectedly drawn to him and his family, who are also outcasted by society. Bella soon figures out that Edward and his family are even more strange than they seem. As it turns out, Bella’s bad luck leads her to a clan of “vegetarian” vampires. Though they do not drink human blood, it is still extremely dangerous for Bella to be around them, especially since Edward has a special liking for the scent of her blood. Throughout the course of the novel, Bella and Edward’s relationship grows to something more than friends, which is dangerous for the both of them. I believe that this book is great for anyone to read because it keeps you hooked from the start to the finish. This book truly is a page-turner, although easy to read, this novel will have readers fascinated with the characters and the environment around them because of its descriptive text. My problem with the novel, however, is that it creates a stereotype that every girl is obsessed with a boy. At first, the novel describes Bella as a girl who’s never really had any romantic interest in anyone. Later, when she meets Edward, all of a sudden something changes and she’s boy-crazy. Despite that fact, even though the book is nearly five hundred pages long, reading it feels quite short, as if you are watching the movie version of it rather than actually sitting and reading. In addition to this novel, there are three other books in the Twilight series, along with a few more spin-off novels by the author. I rate this book a five out of five because of the way it captivated my attention and held it for the whole duration of the novel. The words flow off the page as if you are watching the film-adapted version rather than the book. If you love fantasy, drama, or romance this book is perfect for you!
