Whisper by Lynette Noni (4/5)

Lynette Noni’s Whisper is a young adult science fiction novel that includes romance. This book covers topics like loneliness, stubbornness, fear, and betrayal but it also contains important messages about loyalty, honesty, and trustworthiness.

Subject Jane Doe has been locked away from the world and has not spoken a word for over two and a half years. The last time she did, someone died. She is kept in a cell in a secret, underground government facility. Every day, the scientists perform examinations on her brain and she endures torture when they try to get her to speak. Finally, the government brings in a young man named Landon Ward who is her first social interaction in years. Although he is working with the government, he manages to break past the barriers she has set and become a friend to her. Jane has to choose if it is worth it to keep holding out against the government or to just give in.

I really enjoyed this book because it captured the reader’s attention with both mystery and action. It showed the reader how hard it is to earn some people’s trust and how easy it is to break it. It also showed how some people are so deeply scarred and haunted by bad memories. They blame themselves for things that happened in the past when it was not their fault.

This book was worth reading. Anyone looking for an interesting science fiction novel should read Whisper.
