Wonder by R.J Palacio (5/5)

Wonder By Rj Palacio was published by Alfred A. Knoff in New York is an extraordinary book with an amazing storyline and characters. Wonder is a Non-fiction, young adult novel. Wonder’s theme is never to judge a book by its cover. Wonder has won many awards for its excellence. In 2015 it won the Mark Twain Award and the Young Readers Choice award. In the story, a 10-year-old boy wants to be an ordinary kid but can’t because he doesn’t have a normal face. When he was born he was diagnosed with a very rare syndrome that caused deformities on his face. Now wherever he goes people stare at him and even little kids run away screaming at the sight of him. He has never gone to school except until the 5th grade. The staring is even worse now that he’s at school. He meets a bully that continues to make fun of him and talk behind his back. This book is very memorable and entertaining. Wonder will make you cry and smile. There are quite a bit of humorous parts that will make you laugh. I love how Palacio develops the characters and really describes how they react to situations. I have no complaints for this book. The storyline is so realistic and nothing is far-fetched. The story is told in vignettes and through the eyes of each character. The sequel to wonder Auggie and Me gives background on Auggie’s friends as well as the bully. In the larger scheme of things, the problem Wonder addresses is an issue in the real world. Judging a book by its cover and excepting people who are different needs to be addressed and I agree with Palacio for writing about those directly. Concluding, Rj Palacio’s Wonder is an incredible book with amazing characters and a storyline. The way Palacio explains the story with details really makes the book entertaining and makes you not want to put it down. I recommend reading this book and reading the sequel as well. Wonder is an incredible book. Thank you.
