You'd Be Home Now By Kathleen Glasgow (5/5)

The Novel, “You’d Be Home Now”, By Kathleen Glasgow, was a very interesting and heartfelt novel. It was a story about a girl named Emmy, who is a junior in high school. Four months prior to her going back to school, Emmy was in a car with her older brother and two friends, and the cat crashed because of her brother being drunk and driving recklessly, killing one of the most popular and beautiful girls in their school. Joey, Emmy’s brother, is sent off to rehab, and Emmy is still recovering and actively getting better each day. But the people from her school partially blame her for the accident, and no one wants to see or be seen with her. Emmy already didn’t have very many friends, and now the only friends she did have sent her a message saying they think she should “lay low” when she comes back, and to not hang out with them, essentially saying they were embarrassed to be seen with her, and to please stay away from them. And now on the side of not even having anymore friends, her sister has left for college and she has to deal with trying to adjust to her brother being back in her life, as he is coming back home from rehab sooner than later. Emmy missed her home, before it was broken up, but she worries that things will never be the same again. This is a remarkable story about growth, healing, and overcoming even the most horrible things. It is also a cautionary tale about the dangers of drunk driving, and how it does not only affect the driver but also so many people involved and around incidents like these. This book flowed so well because of the author's writing style. It keeps you engaged and it feels like you’re not even reading, it almost feels like you're watching a movie or tv show because of how interesting and engaging it is. If you are looking for a read that would be worth your time with a heartfelt storyline and good characters, this is a really good option. It is a wonderful novel about restoration, redemption, healing, and learning to regrow after a horribly traumatic event that could easily reroute your entire life.
