Stranded in space, with no idea on how to solve Earth’s impending destruction, Ryland Grace must continue with his only help being the two dead experts on the journey with him, and whatever else is out there. This book is part sci-fi and part fantasy, which may or may not appeal to you. However, if you are in the slightest bit interested, this book won’t let you down. With new energy comes new dangers. The Earth is in danger of having its sunlight stolen by alien single-celled organisms, called astrophage. Top scientists and Ryland Grace, who wrote a paper on this theory, travel using the astrophage to the star Tau Ceti, which has resisted the astrophage invasion. He discovers a predator of the astrophage with the help of an unlikely friend. After breeding a hardier strain, they part ways. However, Grace realizes his friend’s craft cannot survive the trip home as the predator got out and ate the astrophage fuel. He returns, knowing that he won’t be able to go back to earth soon, to escort his friend to save his planet. Years later, a weakened Grace teaches the children of his friend’s species. This book masterfully blends mystery with sci-fi. With Wier’s storytelling, you’ll hang onto every word, page by page, until you reach the end. However, the information present leaves you a bit confused, accidentally building onto the mystery. After reading this book, my rating for this book is 9/10. Personally, this book really fit into my ideal read, and I enjoyed it immensely.
