Divergent by Veronica Roth (4/5)

Living in a world where out of 5 different categories, a test will determine your job for the rest of your life, starting at the age of 16, being trapped inside this bubble of a city. The 5 different categories are candor, abnegation, dauntless, erudite, and amity. Each emphasizes

different traits and strengths. Candor is honest, abnegation is selflessness, dauntless is brave, erudite is intelligence, and amity is peaceful. This book is divergent and the author is Veronica Roth. It was published on April 26th, 2011. Divergent is part of a series, the order is Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiance, and Four. The main character Beatrice starts out in the Abnegation faction with her family, up until she is 16. She then takes a test, she picks the dauntless faction and goes by Tris. In the dauntless faction, she is trained in the initiation process, which eliminates the weak. Leaving only the strongest 5 from the dauntless born and the transfers. The rest will then go factionless. It is a fight between who will come out on top and continue on through the process to become a Dauntless member. Adventures are experienced, things Tris never thought in a million years she would get to experience. Although she started out as being called stiff, because she came from Abnegation, she has proved herself and is now called by the name of Tris. Being in the dauntless faction for Tris has been a roller coaster of emotions, starting from the beginning, and all the way along. She makes friends, as well as enemies, and secret crushes too. She has stood her ground to prove that she is not just a girl from abnegation anymore. The reader will soon after starting to read the book, that Beatrice got the test results of being divergent, which is very rare and dangerous. I like how fast pace and interesting it is. One event after another, throughout the book so many unexpected things happen that make you gasp. It gives the sense of interest that makes the reader want to keep reading to find out what will happen next. The character’s relationships play such a key role in it, and the author did such a good job tieing them all together. There is not really anything bad to say about this book, and the series too. Overall, divergent is a very unique perspective of what a futuristic world could look like and how everything would operate in a time where everything is set up to divide people into categories based on their instincts of them as a person, their personality traits. I completely recommend this book if you are into the futuristic element of what a world could look like. A reader will not be bored whatsoever, they will be completely intrigued with the events that occur.
