Beatrice, later known as Tris, lives in a society where there are five different factions that everyone belongs in or at least should belong in. The factions were created long ago to maintain peace between humanity. The Candor faction is filled with honest people that tell the complete truth. The Abnegation faction is filled with people who are selfless and will do as much as they can to help the people around them. The Dauntless faction is filled with brave people who are the soldiers of the society. The Amity faction is filled with people who live in peace and are the most peaceful. The last faction, Erudite, is filled with smart and intelligent people. Tris was born into the Abnegation but didn’t really feel like she fit like her brother did. Every year all of the 16 year-olds take a test to determine what faction they will be in for the rest of their lives but they get to choose a faction regardless of their test. Tris wasn’t entirely sure which faction she wanted to be in, but when she took the test, it came out inconclusive, or divergent. At first, she was just really worried about being divergent, but later on she learns being divergent means death in most cases. This book was an eye-opening experience for me. I really loved many aspects of the book, especially the way the author conveys the feelings of Tris, you can really feel almost exactly what she’s feeling and exactly what she’s thinking. I would really just understand what’s happening because some parts of the book happen in the real world and it’s really sad to see it.
