Five Feet Apart by Mikki Daughtry, Rachael Lippincott, and Tobias Laconis (4/5)

This novel is about a 17-year-old girl named Stella who struggles with cystic fibrosis. Stella is an organized, hard-working perfectionist who takes her cystic fibrosis seriously. But what happens when she meets someone the polar opposite of her? Will refuses to let his cystic fibrosis get in the way of his life, choosing to live life freely with the little time he has left. This novel is a bittersweet story, where eventually Stella is forced to make a choice: stay safe within the clutches of her cystic fibrosis, or risk her life with the person she loves most.

This book was really sad, but it was also very realistic, in which things aren’t always black and white. This book talks about the struggles that people with cystic fibrosis go through. While most of the teenagers reading this novel don’t have this condition, it leaves a powerful message that we can all relate to. Will and Stella teach us the importance of time, and how we chose to spend it. They show that even with a life-threatening condition, they can still have fun and live. It makes readers really think about how fortunate they are to be able to live without constantly worrying about their health, while also connecting them to other important messages.

I would highly recommend reading this book because while it is very sad, it also makes you appreciate your own life and inspires you to live life to its fullest.
