Five Survive by Holly Jackson (5/5)

The book Five Survive by Holly Jackson is a mystery and thriller. In the book Red along with five others are on a road trip during spring break when they unexpectedly break down in the middle of nowhere with zero cell service. The six of them are now stuck in a RV that's only 31 feet long, surrounded with darkness. They soon realize this is not a mistake. They spend the night trying to escape with many secrets being revealed along the way. The beginning of this book was slow but it picked up in the middle and I could hardly put the book down. It was a thrilling journey filled with adrenaline. I was kept on my toes while I was immersed in the experience. My heart raced and I held my breath for these characters so much.I loved how there were so amazing plot turns that made me need to keep reading. Along with all the mystery this book also did an amazing job portraying all the characters' many emotions while forcing me to feel it with them. I think the author did an outstanding job portraying Red’s grief, hurt, and guilt that has been weighing her down for so long. I am also so amazed that the author managed to create a character that I hate and am annoyed by so deeply(Oliver) but at the same time created characters I could resonate with in at least one point in the story. It was interesting to see these characters' relationships and personality so raw when their survival instinct kicks in and their only objective is to survive at all costs. The pressure of the whole situation revealed so many emotions and really gave me a clear view of all the characters. The end of the story was so satisfying and closed the story so well but still left room for speculation of unanswered questions. Overall Holly Jackson was so ingenious with the characters emotions and the way she brought me into them for an emotional rollercoaster. The experience was so immense and right when I thought I knew what was going on, a huge plot twist greeted me. Five Survive is one of and if not the best book I have read. I loved this book so much that I am planning on reading Holly Jacksons series A Good Girl's Guide To Murder. As someone that usually has little motivation to read, I am engorged to read more and I would definitely recommend this book to other readers.
