Kora by Malina Epley (4/5)

Kora is a part of the lowest class of slaves, in her village people die young from starvation and disease. Finally, after years of waiting Kora earns the chance to become a racer, and her hopes to achieve her dreams become tangible. After being selected, she begins her treacherous training only to find that the coming race isn’t a normal competition and no runner is meant to survive. My first reaction to the book was not great, I didn’t care for the main character and the writing was not the best, but the storyline hooked me in and throughout the series, I became transfixed by the side characters and the dangerous plot. I would recommend reading through half of the book before deciding it isn’t for you. Because of all the plot twists and unknown obstacles events change quickly and will rarely leave you bored.
