#MurderFunding is a thrilling apocalyptic murder mystery written by Gretchen McNeil, slowly developing the eerie theme of things may not always be as they seem to the reader. Becca Martinello, the main character is a quiet girl with not many friends and not much of an interesting life either until her mother dies in a tragic accident. After the accident, Becca meets a mysterious girl named Stef who surprises her with the fact her mother starred in a show as a murderer. Stef and Becca go through an unfortunate series of events starting from when they both audition and make it onto a murder show! Little do they know that the murders taking place in this peculiar “show” are actually real. Becca who wanted to know about the more mysterious of the mothers gets more than surprised when she finds out the truth about Who Wants to Be a Painiac?. I thought that this book was going to be abandoned by myself when I first started to read it. But eventually, my entire perspective changed when the settings and the tone of the book changed so fast! This book relates to the real world issue of exploitation on social media, so many content creators in this new digital era exploit people for their own fame and profit, but the exploiters in this book take it to another level. I think that the author of this book is one of a kind, using more teen-like humor to make the perspective of our young main character Becca more realistic and understandable. I felt that this book escalated the plot way too fast and the actions taken by Becca were very rash and weren’t illustrated in a comprehensible way. I also thought that the perspective change wasn’t coordinated at all and came very suddenly at unexpectable parts in the book. Overall, I feel this book was a sudden suspense and murder filled thriller leaving us on a semi-cliff hanger. If you’re looking for a quick relatable kick, I’d say this book is for you.
