Percy Jackson, a “troubled” kid, has attended numerous schools throughout his life. He assumes he has just caused trouble and has been kicked out of those schools for those reasons but what he doesn’t know is that it wasn’t exactly his fault. Percy Jackson is in fact a half-blood and son of one of the most powerful gods. You may be wondering, what is a half-blood? Well, Percy is a half-blood because his mother married and had a child, Percy, with a god. He isn’t aware but he has been accused of stealing Zeus's lightning bolt, yes, the god of the sky and lighting. That isn’t his only problem though. He is having to survive creatures of all sorts trying to kill him and capture him before the winter solstice, which is in ten days. He has to return the lightning bolt to Zeus within ten days or else all chaos will break loose in Mount Olympus, leaving all the weight of the world on his shoulders. But he is also accompanied by two companions who guide and join him on his treacherous journey.
My initial reaction to this book was that it was going to be a unique and adventurous read. The first page is interacting with the reader and builds immediate suspense because the term “half-blood” is mentioned which, to new readers, have no idea what that is. The author does a very good job of keeping the reader interested and intrigued, but at the same time, giving the reader what they want to hear and visualize. There isn’t even anything I would change about this book, which says a lot because I’m a picky reader. This book is also a great influence to get into Greek mythology because it is very clear to understand and as well as making it fun and interesting.
Overall, this book was a very fun read, and I would highly recommend it for anyone who loves adventure, mythology, and suspense. For anyone who is intrigued to read this, be prepared for surprises and unexpected things to happen that will make you say “oh my god(s)”.
