Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson (3/5)

In fifty years, will technology be beneficial to our lives, or separate us even more? Snow Crash, by Neal Stephenson, is a sci-fi and dystopian novel. This novel was written in 1992 and includes many futuristic technologies, although some of these have been created by today. This novel is about two very different characters, a young adult hacker and swordsman, and a young hip teenager, who create an unlikely alliance. These characters have very different perspectives on life and varying amounts of knowledge. The two are able to use their expertise, however, to work together, and solve out the looming problem. This book does a good job of appealing to current generations since the characters use futuristic technology. As the book continues, however, there are lots of far-fetched conspiracy theories about religion, sometimes rambling on for pages at a time. These conspiracies do not appeal to every audience, especially to someone who practices one of these religions. If these segments were much shorter, they would be more bearable, and the reader would never want to put the book down. Snow Crash did provide an interesting outlook on how the future of our world could be. Overall, this book was worth reading, yet isn’t for everyone. I would recommend this book to someone who is interested in technology, and who likes to ponder the possibly dystopian future of our country.
