The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The first book of the Inheritance games series ended with a huge cliffhanger which at the start of the year I read and as I was finishing up math last trimester I was reminded of the book and just had to read it to find out what happens next. But, before I get into that I haven’t told you the most basic information for this book review. First of all the name of the book is The Hawthorne Legacy and the author's name is Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I rated this book as a 4 out of 5 because it was a great read and was much more relaxing than some of the other books on my list to read like Mere Christianity, but there was just some depth missing from the story that was a little disappointing. However, that’s the idea of easy and laid-back reads. I classify this book as a mix between Mystery, Romance, and a quick read. We had just left off with the concept that Tobias Hawthorn (junior) was Avery’s father and in this book, you get to discover more and more of the secrets behind the Hawthorne family and even the relevance of the heiress Avery Kylie Grambs inheriting the fortune in the first place. It all started with the fire on the island. Slowly throughout the book, the full story of what happened on that island is revealed, but watch out because there are people waiting around every corner to stop you from finding out the truth or kill you if you find out too much. This twisted game did end up in certain parts driving Jameson Hawthorne and Avery together (yes romantically) in a dysfunctional way at first that blossomed into a beautiful relationship. If you can’t tell I did skip a lot of the romance parts of the book. The book was very compelling to see because I generally do like mystery books and this book had a very driving storyline. I also found that we got to see more of the character between the Hawthorne grandsons and more about their upbringing as well as more of Avery's friend Max who is still unable to swear and unleashes an arsenal of substitutes she uses. One of the main concepts brought up is that yes the truth is sought by these people, especially the Hawthornes (especially Jameson) but sometimes secrets are left buried. In conclusion, I found this book very enjoyable and an easy read for people who don’t want to dive deep into ground-breaking or life-altering concepts and teachings. Thank you for taking your time to read this review and I hope you found it interesting.
