In the book, The Long Walk by Stephen King, teenage boys from the Maine-Canada area meet near the Canadian border each year. They compete in a contest called The Walk, which is run by a man known as “The Major”. In this contest the boys must compete for who can walk the longest while keeping a 4 mile per hour pace. If they do not keep this pace, they have 3 strikes, and then will be shot. Whoever lasts longest will be rewarded “The Prize” (anything they want for the rest of their lives). In this thrilling book, Raymond Garraty (the book’s main character), joins this competition for fun. Little does he know the toll The Walk will have on him physically and mentally. This book was very thrilling and intriguing to read, although depressing at times. Stephen King’s tone in this book was mysterious and left many things for the reader to speculate. Overall, Stephen King’s The Long Walk was a good read that had an interesting storyline and plot. This book never failed to be entertaining and full of suspense. I would recommend reading this book if you enjoy thriller/ psychological horror books.
