Updated: Oct 13, 2022

From Nowhere to Somewhere

Trapped after his homestead had been ravaged by Scavengers, Taimin has nowhere to go. Having witnessed his parents get killed by Scavengers right in front of him, and having fallen off a cliff and being crushed by rocks, Taimin has lost all hope. Set to be burned in the Firewall by his Aunt, he becomes determined to get stronger and exact revenge on the people who killed his parents.

Taimin, the main character, was born in a horribly torrid environment. He lived with his parents and Aunt until one scorching afternoon scavengers, the roamers of the land approached with the false intention of trading. When Taimins parents approached, the scavengers pulled out their swords and started attacking, Taimin being young at the time was rushed back while his untrained parents tried relentlessly to fight off the attackers. As his parents were picked off one after another the only one left was his Aunt as she managed to single-handedly fight off the attackers, but just as the attackers retreated Taimin fell off a cliff with rocks crushing his foot along with his morale. While all hope was lost his Aunt carried him to the firewall to burn his parents and said if he wanted to stay with her he would have to make it back to the homestead by himself and if he didn't, he would burn alive in the Firewall. With a newfound determination, he crawls with a goal in mind, to kill his parents' killers.

I absolutely love this book and it is easily in my top ten literary works I have ever read. In my opinion, I think the story is executed with precision and there is no room to think about what happened because all of the gaps are filled with exquisite detail. All of this while being able to make me itch with anticipation as to what will happen next.

I would 10/10 recommend this book to someone who likes all types of literary works.
