Listening Still by Anne Griffin (4/5)

Being able to communicate with the deceased is a magical amazing gift. Well, not for Jeanie Materson. Listening Still the newest book by bestselling author Anne Griffin portrays Jeanie’s life with this gift or curse. Jeanie Matersons is a part of a family, who all work as undertakers. From elementary school to college she has been bullied because of the rumors about her family's gift. Her father wants to retire leaving her, the only person that can talk to the dead, to run the business. She faces the challenge of losing people dear to her, relationship issues, and figuring out if she’ll take the company over or not. This Book has many unexpected twists and turns to leave the reader wondering what will happen next throughout the whole book. I love the fact that they showed how her gift affected her relationships with the people in her life and her mental well-being. Also, at times the novel played into how the main character Jeanie Materson was a bad person and wasn’t always at her best. I recommend this book to people who like romance and coming-of-age books. This book shows themes of teen love, life lessons, and learning through failure. I would give Listening Still a 4/5 because although this book does have many good plot lines throughout the book, it does jump around a lot, going into her younger life, and can get a little confusing.
